From the moment we drove into the car park of the Hotel Savoy in Selva di Val Gardena, I knew this was going to be a wonderful place to stay. First impressions count and I loved the alpine chalet-style look of the hotel, its balconies overflowing with summer flowers.

Rooms at Hotel Savoy
Upon check in, we were greeted warmly and shown to our room, a Junior Romantic Suite, by one of the friendly staff members.
The room featured a large four poster bed, desk, TV, WiFi, fridge/mini bar, a spacious bathroom (with bathtub) and our own private balcony, complete with chairs.
Dining at Hotel Savoy in Selva
Accommodation at Hotel Savoy is reserved on a half-board basis so both breakfast and dinner are included in the price, and what can I say about the meals but WOW!
The typically alpine-style restaurant is beautifully furnished and sets the tone for a first class dining experience – it’s classy but homely.
Dinner each evening consisted of a five-course meal (you pre-ordered from a choice of dishes for each course at breakfast time) made with the freshest South Tyrolean produce.
Each dish was a loving-prepared gourmet experience. Take a look at the menu below for an example of what we dined on each night and you’ll see why I loved it so much.
Breakfast was no less impressive. You can’t get much better than a breakfast buffet that features apple strudel!! In addition to the delicious cakes (I only indulged once!), we feasted on cereal, bread, fresh fruit and yoghurt. A huge selection of cheese, cold meats, hard boiled eggs and salad were also available.
The quality of the food was first rate and the presentation amazing.
According to the staff, the hotel is most popular in winter when visitors flock to the region to ski but it was still reasonably busy during our summer stay in July.
Hotel Savoy’s facilities
There’s an in-house spa and sauna (fee payable), two swimming pools and a small lawn area with sun lounges. Inside, there’s a cosy lounge area with bar.
The hotel also offers various activities throughout the week, including alpine walks with a local guide. Free on-site parking is also available.
Hotel Savoy is just a leisurely ten minute walk from the centre of Selva where you’ll find plenty of shops and cafes. Selva is in the heart of the Val Gardena region of The Dolomites and there are plenty of options for day trips.
Personal touches
We could not fault our stay at Hotel Savoy and the staff went out of their way to assist. When we asked if there was a laundromat in town where we could do some washing, we were told ‘we will have the housekeeping staff do it for you’. We handed over a huge bag of washing and it was returned later the same day – washed and ironed – for just €30.
Upon checking out after our wonderful three night stay, we were presented with a recipe book featuring some of the dishes we had enjoyed during our stay.
It was a nice touch and it’s another reason this family-owned and run hotel (which is a member of the Small Luxury and Spa Hotels) receives such high ratings.
Having fallen in love with the Dolomites, I’ll definitely be returning to Selva and my first choice for accommodation will be the Hotel Savoy.
