In the centre of the fairyale German town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Christmas comes 365 days a year. The town is the home of the Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas Village and the German Christmas Museum.
The Käthe Wohlfahrt brand celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014 and now has grown to now include numerous other shops in Rothenburg as well as in various locations in Germany, France and Belgium.
Whatever your age or your opinion on the commercialism of Christmas today, your inner-child will emerge when you visit one of the stores or the museum … and unless you have the strongest of will power, your wallet will be lighter for the experience. It’s irresistible!

I’ve also visited Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas stores in Oberammergau and Rüdesheim (Germany) and Riquewihr (France). You can also find shops in Berlin, Heidelberg, Nürnberg, Bamberg (all in Germany) and Bruges in Belgium.
Need to know
- The German Christmas Museum (Weihnachtsmuseum) is open year round, generally from 10am to 5.30pm.
- Entry fee is €4 per adult, €2.50 concession and €2 per child. Family rates are also available.
